Serum can do FM synthesis, just not as good as Operator. *My pick two for synths of course would be Vital and Diva. It isn't for surgical or drastic changes but that's where CHANNEV comes in. I put it ahead of everything else on my mixbus in four out of five projects and the result is tangible on everything. honestly getting a good result is a matter of personal taste and practiced listening but it can open up and fill out a mix like nothing else I've used yet. The EQ232 mastering EQ is a gem for mix processing. The de-esser alone is the easiest, cleanest one I've used regularly so far. It has optional analog saturation modeling that actually sounds good. (My runner up, more expensive option would be Softube and their Console 1 compatible VSTs - because Softube makes great stuff, and they have the external hardware to match and control the VSTs)Ī bunch of people picked the synths I feel like I would choose already*, so I'll lean into the effects and suggest Analog Obsession's CHANNEV (honestly all his plugins but I'm picking one all-rounder) and the Bettermaker EQ232 passive mastering EQ emu that Plugin Alliance put out.ĬHANNEV is generally based on a Neve 8801 channel but the bottom line is that it has a de-esser, EQ, compressor, limiter and tape saturation modeling in one plugin and all of it sounds really good on just about any source. and there's a lot of tutorials out there to help learn to use the products. (It's also used by pros so, you can grow with it.). I'm sure if I was a pro, I would have some nitpicks of various brands of compressors, EQ's, reverbs, and so on, but iZotope's ecosystem is full of options, presets, and helper tools. I say this from a beginner's perspective. Multi-FX Analog Color and Degradation: RC-20Īll-in-one FX to add analog-style effects: reverb, distortion, noise, wobble, it's all in there - with lots of presets, and you can create your own and have them sync to your XLN account. It also has a really good drum replacement feature and a lot more. You can also import your own samples, and if you ever want to learn to play an electronic drum kit you're set. Steep learning curve, expensive, but you'll get a ton of raw drum samples and can learn drum sound design. (Unfortunately, it also has a pretty steep learning curve, limited preset sorting, and limited learning tools.)ĭrums: Superior Drummer x (version 3 at the time of this post) MPE, scripting, internal mixing, surround sound. UVI Falcon: It's a powerful, hybrid sampler/synth that can do just about anything. Serum: It's versatile, has lots of learning materials and presets (both free and paid). I've got far too many synths.īut, for synths, I'd go with Serum and UVI Falcon. Lol, yeah, I came to that conclusion as well.
